Last week we took what looks like our last trip for a while (thanks Covid-19 threat), and we were all glad it was to beautiful central Texas – San Antonio, Austin and Fredricksburg – and a hot minute of Kirby showing me where he used to work in Houston. More pics of Fredricksburg coming in part 2.
We went to celebrate a cousin’s grandson’s wedding, and they got married up on a bluff on Contigo Ranch just out of Fredricksburg. It was a beautiful place for a wedding and reception and we really enjoyed just being guests! Annsley wouldn’t even let me bring my camera!
Andrew and Hanna were the sweetest couple, and it was a lovely time with dear family members. All our kids spent summer vacation time digging together in North Carolina mountain creeks for salamanders, and making great memories at the Shropshire cabins.
Earlier that day we explored Fredricksburg and the surrounding area. It was perfect weather, in the 70s. I can imagine it being pretty hot in the summers! We did the Willow Creek Loop to see some bluebonnets, which were lovely, but, I hate to tell you, much smaller than they look in photos!
I’m always grateful for a husband who will pull over for me to lay in a ditch to get pictures of flowers!
There’s a reason it’s called Texas Hill Country! It was rugged, and covered with scrubby brush and sad, twisted, short trees, but it was beautiful in its own way. Not sure how they raised cattle out here – there were lots of ranch signs – because not much grass. But maybe that’s why everyone had to have a huge spread.
Fredricksburg is a tourist town, but retains much of its small-town charm. We enjoyed some great barbecue at Max’s on the main drag, and enjoyed looking in several great shops with individual character – only a few chain stores.
Our AirBnB was named “A Bushel & a Peck” was SO adorable, really comfortable and close to the main street of shops. It was in a neighborhood, so quiet and filled with cute cozy touches.
